Question: I agree that the American hotel is a great place to stay, and is especiallyconvenient to the museums. It is a bit expensive, but worth the money if youcan afford it. I recently stayed at the Golden Tulip Amsterdam Center, which is across thestreet from the American. It is a very nice, modern hotel with good amenities, and notably cheaper than the American. It is a bit generic, but I was quitehappy with it. Both of these hotels are near the Leidseplein, a bustling square near the edgeof Amsterdam's Centrum (central) area. Nightclubs, reasonable restaurants, andshopping are all a few steps away. Museums are an easy walk or a very shorttaxi ride. The tram lines are right outside the door at both properties.
