Question:
I am taking a trip to Amsterdam at the end of Sept 01. I want to stayin a hostel - I love the atmosphere - but am not sure which is thebest price for the best location. I was thinking of staying in theShelter City Christian Hostel - it says it is 7 minutes from CentralStation. I looked on the internet for best prices and it seems thatPig is a tad bit expensive for a hostel (this is after traveling bothCanada and Australia and paying approx $15-20 a night). So whatshould I do? I want a good price for a central location (impossible?hope not!).

Now having said that, I don't mind walking one bit (and I hear thebikes are big there) and might even change hostels after I am therefor a few days, but I would like to start the trip in a CentralLocation for a good price. Anyone with tips and hints on this?

Also, I live in London - but how is the weather in Amsterdam in thefall - about the same? Thanks in advance.

Answer: The Christian Youth Hostel "The Shelter" is one of the cheapest youwill find in Amsterdam and where you will at least lodge in decent,human conditions.You can also try Bob's Youth Hostel, Nieuwezijdse Voorburgwal 92 tel6230063, 5 min walk from the station. Very old fashioned, it couldhurt you by its conservatism. A lot of cigarette smoke, but it's ayouth hostel, don't forget!. Correct sleeping halls. Rates dormitories25 guilders per person (breakfast and sheets included).

Another is the AVC Budget Youth Hostel, Warmoestraat87 tel 6255974.Could be funny since it's in the middle of a sex-shop area. Mixtsleeping dortoirs. I don't think it is expensive.In the same street you have "Meeting Point", at no.14 tel 6277499, alittle bit more expensive.Cost 27 guilders
