Question: I'm interested in going to Amsterdam in late December (around the 29th)and staying for a week to ten days. Does anyone have any ideas aboutwhere to get good airline fares? The best I've gotten so far is a fareof $421- on Carnival Airlines. Will the fares go down as it gets closerto the travel date? Also, I've never been there before, so I'm interested in places tostay. I'm traveling with three friends, so an apartment is an option. We want to stay in the center of the city I think--but where is this? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: I think that you will find that in many cases, the price of airfares go upsignificantly in the week between Christmas and New Year's; it's a sellersmarket, since demand is usually up. You could wait and gamble on sell offof seats through a consolidator, but you won't save that much, nor willyou have a choice in terms of travel dates/times. I would get the best deal I can find now, and book it. Try a consolidatorfor KLM/Northwest and see how you make out.
