Question:
I am planning a 3 or 4 day trip to Amsterdam and would like to stay near thecentre of Amsterdam, with my wife. I would appreciate if someone woulde-mail me to advise me of whether or not the city is expensive (from aBritish point of view). I am NOT visiting Amsterdam for the sex or drugsscene, however will visit the red light district for curiosity sake.

I will be looking for a hotel near the centre, and so how much would Iexpect to pay? It does not need to be right in the centre, but not too faraway, possibly travelling in by train or tram. I understand that exchangebureau places can provide hotel contacts, possibly for a cheap as Ј40. Isthis correct, and if so is it per room or person, and will it be clean!

Any information would be very much appreciated.

Answer: Good city for a 3 day break. I find it very good value, especially since theEuro is weak. Go back to the "Hotel in Amsterdam" thread started on the 26thApril for many suggestions about useful sites for hotel info.

I have personally stayed in the Owl hotel and the Hotel Roemmer Visschler,both of which I recommend as modest good value hotels.
