Question:
Hello! Does anyone know if the cafes and restaurants in Amsterdam have very rain-protected seating areas or if sitting outside is even common? Are there many, or any, non-tabacco smoking places to sit inside? We are going up there for a few days and it looks cool & rainy. Just trying to pack right. Here in southern Germany, sitting outside is great, but the seating is not made for rainy days, and going inside is not an option if you can't hande cigarrete smoke

Answer: There are not many non-smoking places in Amsterdam though a few have non-smoking areas. However, I will say I was struck when I was last there (in March, I think it was) by how few people were smoking even where it was allowed.
